Immanuel Fellowship Church is inviting the Winnipeg community to an evening of gospel music, worship, food and fellowship this Sunday.
Organizer Leke Adeniran said the event is rooted in what church leadership believes is a direction from God.
“We know for sure that God has got a plan to reach out to souls that day, to people, to their hearts, to their needs that day,” he said.
Adeniran is encouraging people of all ages to attend, whether they regularly attend church or are simply looking for a community gathering.
“The role of the church is more than just the church,” said Gift Festus, one of the event organizers. “The church dwells within a community. So we want to touch that community.”

Bringing Afro-Indigenous worship music together
The event is a collaboration of Afro-Indigenous worship music, bringing together Indigenous and African musical traditions for an evening of worship and fellowship.
Launching Church and Rise Above Band are Indigenous groups, while the Immanuel Fellowship Church Choir is Immanuel Fellowship’s in-house choir.
Festus said bringing the groups together will provide an opportunity to celebrate different musical and cultural traditions while worshipping together.
“It’s not just going to be African music or just Indigenous music,” he said. “It’s music of every kind as much as we can offer that.”
The evening will also include food and opportunities for people of all ages to connect.
Organizers describe a jamboree as a lively and joyful gathering, and say the event is intended to be both a celebration and a chance for the church to build relationships throughout the wider Winnipeg community.
An invitation to the community
The Gospel Jamboree runs Sunday, Aug. 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Immanuel Fellowship Church, 479 St. Mary’s Road in Winnipeg.
Immanuel Fellowship Church also has a second Winnipeg location at 828 Silverstone Avenue.
