The Estevan Tennis Club is continuing to build momentum through the summer, with regular programming giving local players opportunities to develop their skills and get out on the courts.
Club president Arnold Betzema says last week’s activities included skills and drills, men’s night and ladies’ night, with players making progress despite some rain.
Betzema says the skills and drills session helped participants become more confident with their strokes and serves, while the club was able to continue with men’s night after members squeegeed the courts following the rain.
Ladies night also saw strong participation last week.
Opportunities to get involved
The club is inviting women with some previous tennis experience to take part in ladies night. Those interested can contact Angie Weeb through the Estevan Tennis Club’s Facebook page or by email.
Skills and drills are also continuing this week, offering an opportunity for people who are interested in learning more about tennis or simply want to come out and see what the club is all about.
The session is scheduled for Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
The City of Estevan lists the Estevan Tennis Club among its local recreation organizations, while Tennis Saskatchewan lists the club as an affiliated tennis organization with Betzema as its contact.
Looking toward youth programming
Looking ahead to the fall, Betzema says the club is continuing to explore ways to bring more young people back onto the courts.
He says the goal is to help prepare local youth for the Summer Games in the coming years while building interest in the sport.
The club’s regular programming is expected to continue through the end of August.
