WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman praises the fantastic achievements and advances of Women’s Boxing
The fruits of many years of labor, blood, sweat and tears, is combining and culminating into tangible and lasting triumphs for Women’s Boxing and in today’s era the earning capacity can be amassed and counted in millions.
At the Martes a Cafe weekly press conference, on this occasion in Sport and Chips, Coyocan, World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman commented in detail about the tradition of glory that his Father Don José Sulaiman helped establish, grow, support, reinforce, flourish and champion. Mauricio and the WBC continue that glorious legacy and helps it further branch out and develop.
Mauricio started by praising the extraordinary achievement of Claressa Shields in slimming down from heavyweight champion to defeat Kaye Scott via a sixth round TKO to reclaim the WBC and WBA middleweight titles. He said: “It was a fantastic achievement. It was just great to see how she came down. She is an example of hard work and resilience and dedication.
“Claressa is building her own legacy. Everyone has their own era and right now we are living the era of Claressa Shields. i’m so proud and so happy to see women being in such tremendous form worldwide. The WBC is completely in favor and dedicated to promoting and encouraging women’s boxing, their protection and safety. We are seeing the glory of Laura Serrano, Katie Taylor and all those who have built such great careers including Jackie Nava, Mariana Juarez, Ana Maria Torres. There is so much talent across and around the world. Women’s boxing is a reality and it is now and here to stay forever.”
Mauricio also stressed that today it’s much more to do with drawing power and fame through winning results, rather than gender. It is this which determines earning power viz purses.
He explained: “There are women boxers who earn more money than men boxers. It is about the person, their market value, the way they perform, so today it is not about being a woman or a man. There is Claressa Shields, Katie Taylor, Amanda Serrano and so many who are doing a great job in boxing.”
