Power is currently being restored for thousands of homes and businesses in Brampton after a single-vehicle collision knocked down two hydro poles causing an outage, according to Alectra Utilities.
The outage initially affected 4,376 homes and business, according to an Alectra social media post. The company says that number had dropped to 83 homes and businesses as of 11:50 a.m.
Power is expected to be fully restored between 10 p.m. and 12 a.m. according to Alectra’s recent social media post. In an earlier statement to CBC News Tuesday morning, the company said most customers could see their power back by 9 a.m., but some customers may remain without power longer while the damaged poles are replaced.
The collision happened on Rosedale Avenue just around 1:15 a.m. according to a statement from Peel Regional Police. On social media, police said a vehicle hit several hydro poles.
As of 7 a.m., Rosedale Avenue was closed between Fairglen Avenue and Mill Street and police said it could remain closed until the afternoon.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested for impaired driving, police said. Paramedics said everyone on scene refused to be assessed or transported.
