Girls sought by Surrey soccer club for 2026-27 season in Guildford

One of Surrey’s oldest soccer clubs is looking for girls to play “the beautiful game” this fall at Hjorth Road Park.

In particular, females born in 2017 are sought for the U10 Courage team coached by Lisa Denton at Guildford Athletic Club (GAC), launched way back in 1965.

The 2026-27 season starts on the second Sunday of September, and there’s still time to register on guildfordac.com.

“Right now we have eight girls, and we’re looking for 12 to 14,” the coach said last week. “We just don’t have a lot of girls that age in our club, and we welcome girls of all ages.”

Denton played at GAC growing up and later won a national championship with a Langara College women’s team. “We’re a family that loves soccer,” she noted.

The fall 2026/27 season runs September to March with staggered start dates. Boys teams play games Saturdays, and girls teams, Sundays. Weekday practices, where a program has them, start at 5 p.m. or later, with exact times set once teams are formed.

U6 and U7 teams have no weekday practices in September, only Saturday games. Games are played outdoors in all weather, and there are no practices or games on long weekends.

Mini programs (U3–U5) run outdoors in September and move into local gyms from October onwards. U8–U10 teams start the season outdoors for both practices and games. U6 and U7 play Saturday games only in September, starting Sept. 19, with no weekday practices that month. From October, U6 and U7 move into the gym at Lena Shaw Elementary on Tuesdays or Thursdays (U6 from 5 to 6 p.m., U7 from 6 to 7 p.m., running through March.

Says a post on GAC’s Facebook page: “Some come for the soccer. Some come for their friends. Most end up staying for both.… Come find your team.”

New this year at GAC, each family is required to pay a $100 Volunteer Fee at the time of registration. Those who complete their required volunteer commitment will receive their deposit back in December 2026, April 2027 or July 2027.
