Several homes in a southern Ottawa community were evacuated overnight after a tanker truck crashed and started leaking gas.
The hazardous materials team of Ottawa fire arrived Tuesday around 9:00 p.m. to find a propane truck on its side, near the intersection of Parkway Road and Cedar Lane in Greely.
As a precaution emergency responders needed to evacuate the homes within 800 metres of the incident.
Several roads were closed into the night as teams worked to clear the area.
It was a single vehicle collision that did not have injuries. Paramedics told CityNews they were called to the scene but did not treat anyone.
Fire crews remained on scene to monitor the air quality and assess the leak in the truck.
Residents were given accommodations for the night as officials did not clear the area until almost 12 hours later.
Teams were out all night trying to patch up the truck so it could be safely transported from the roadway. (OFS)
