Motorists are being alerted to a lane closure on a historic bridge located in the north end of Mississauga.

Peel Region officials said one lane will be closed to traffic on the Old Derry Road bridge today through Friday to allow restoration work to take place on the structure.

The bridge, which crosses over the Credit River, is located on Old Derry Road between Historic Trail and Credit Valley Conservation Road in the historic Meadowvale Village area of Mississauga.

Peel officials said traffic control measures will be in place in the affected area over the next three days.

Earlier this year, the City of Mississauga launched an environmental assessment (EA) study for Old Derry Road, which runs through the historic community of Meadowvale Village.

The EA will examine a range of potential upgrades the city says are intended to “address the condition of the municipal infrastructure and prioritize the safety of all road users.”

Among the improvements being considered are pavement rehabilitation, new cycling infrastructure and the repair or replacement of existing bridge structures, including the Old Derry Road bridge over the Credit River.

The Old Derry Road bridge is a designated heritage structure within the Meadowvale Village Heritage Conservation District and serves as a scenic gateway into the village. Built in 1930, the bridge is considered historically significant for its design and character.

The EA study area stretches from Second Line West to Old Creditview Road, with portions of Old Creditview Road also included in the review.
