A Montreal police officer was stabbed and a civilian was shot by police gunfire during an intervention in Villeray—St-Michel—Parc-Extension Wednesday afternoon.
Officers were called to an apartment on 14th Ave. near Émile-Journault Ave. late in the afternoon to check on the health and safety of a person at the address, SPVM spokesperson Jeanne Drouin said.
During the intervention, an officer was stabbed and suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The person shot by police also suffered serious injuries.
A perimeter was established around the scene. Quebec’s police watchdog, the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes, has opened an investigation into the intervention, spokesperson Jérémie Comtois told The Gazette. Comtois confirmed that a person was injured by police gunfire.
“I am following very closely, along with the SPVM, the series of events that have occurred in this neighbourhood over the past few days,” Quebec internal security minister Ian Lafrenière, himself a former SPVM officer, posted on X.
