People heading into Kananaskis Country west of Cochrane are being reminded to stay bear aware, with several warnings and a closure now in place.
Alberta Parks has issued a bear warning for the Boulton Creek, Interlakes and Lower Lake campgrounds in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park. The warning took effect Aug. 15 and remains in place until further notice due to bears frequenting the area.
A separate bear closure is in effect at Mt. Lorette Ponds Day Use in Bow Valley Provincial Park because of bear activity. The closure also began Aug. 15 and will remain until further notice.

Bear safety reminders
Alberta Parks says bears can be encountered at any time, even when an advisory is not in place.
Visitors are encouraged to:
Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
Stay aware of their surroundings and watch for signs of bears.
Keep pets on a leash.
Carry bear spray and keep it easily accessible.
Secure food, garbage, pet food and other scented items in hard-sided vehicles or bear-proof lockers.
