Police have impounded a dump truck and charged a Brampton driver on a no-truck route with impaired operation after finding open liquor in the vehicle.

The traffic stop happened on Tuesday around 12 p.m. in the area of Mountainview Road and Escarpment Sideroad in Caledon, the OPP says.

The town has put trucking bans in place on some roads, and the OPP says a commercial vehicle driver was stopped by officers on a no-truck route.

Police say the investigating officer had an interaction with the male driver, and suspected the man’s ability to drive was impaired by alcohol.

Photos shared by police show multiple liquor cans and a “fail” result on a roadside breath testing device.

The OPP says the 33-year-old driver from Brampton has been charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), having care or control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available, and disobey sign.

The driver is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on Sept. 24 to answer to the charges. The vehicle was impounded for seven days, while the driver’s licence has been suspended for a period of 90 days.

The truck restrictions have been in place in Caledon since the beginning of July and will remain in effect until at least the end of next year. The Region of Peel says the ban will improve road safety north of Brampton amid ongoing bridge reconstruction and storm sewer work.
