Five people have been arrested and charged after a shooting on school grounds in Brampton that took the lives of one man and one youth in April, Peel police say.
Jahnoi Bell, a 21-year-old from Brampton, and two 17-year-olds, also from Brampton, are facing two charges each of first-degree murder, Peel police said in a news release Monday. One of the 17-year-olds is also facing several firearm charges.
The identities of the 17-year-olds are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Two others have been charged in the investigation. A 23-year-old from Orangeville is charged with possessing a firearm for the purpose of trafficking and a 25-year-old from Toronto is charged with conspiracy to commit an offence and breaching a probation order.

Police allege the accused were involved in a shooting that happened on the St. Joachim Elementary School grounds near Rutherford Road and Weybridge Trail at about 10:21 p.m. on April 3.
Police found a man in his 20s on site and found a male youth close by, near Weybridge Trail. Both were suffering from gunshot wounds and died despite lifesaving efforts from first responders, police said.
At the time, officers said they believed the shooting was targeted.
In Monday’s news release, Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah said investigators will work to get justice for the victims and their families.
“Two lives were cut short by gun violence, leaving families and a community to grieve,” said Duraiappah. “This investigation has been relentless, and these arrests are an important step toward holding those responsible accountable.”
Following the incident in April, Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown said he extended his “heartfelt condolences” to the families, friends and loved ones of the victims, adding all levels of government should collaborate to address illegal firearms.
In Monday’s release, Police said they found two firearms during the investigation, one at the scene and another at a residence in Brampton, following a search warrant.
