It was considered a dark time for many LGBTQ2S Canadians who served in the military, RCMP and federal public service when the “purge” occurred. From the 1950s to 90s, National Defence, the Mounties and the public service weeded out homosexuals, seen as vulnerable to enemies of state. Now – decades later, a monument to reflect on this period and remind people of this dark chapter has been unveiled in Ottawa. Eric Sorensen reports.
