Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre has a new operator
After nearly 30 years with the same operator, the Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre will soon be under new management.
The City of West Kelowna announced Friday the YMCA of Southern Interior BC will take over operation of the facility beginning Jan. 1, 2027.
They will assume operations from Active Living Enterprises, which has operated the aquatic centre for nearly 30 years.
They advised the city they would not seek another operating term.
“We are honoured to have been selected by the City of West Kelowna and recognize the important contributions of those who have built and supported JBMAC over the years,” said Allyson Graf, president and CEO of YMCA of Southern Interior BC.
“Our priority is to build on the strong foundation already in place while ensuring a positive transition for staff, participants, and the broader community.”
The YMCA also acknowledges the commitment and passion demonstrated by all proponents involved in the process, including those with a long history of serving the facility and community. The organization is committed to approaching the transition with respect and a focus on community benefit.
Everything will remain status quo through the transition. The fall program guide will remain in place as is.
The YMCA’s immediate priorities are maintaining service continuity, supporting staff and facility users, and ensuring programs and services continue to meet the needs of residents.
“Thank you to Active Living Enterprises for their many years of service in our community running the Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre. So many families learned to swim at JBMAC or participated in the various classes and activities offered, creating a welcoming space not only for health and fitness, but also as a place for people to connect,” said Patrick Pulak, general manager of operations at the City of West Kelowna.
