Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating a person’s death following a shooting involving a police officer in North York Saturday.
Officers responded shortly before 1:30 p.m. to reports of a damaged vehicle driving erratically near Wilson and King High avenues, Toronto police said in a post to social media platform X.
The vehicle had been involved in a collision and the driver attempted to flee the scene, police said.
During an interaction with the driver, an officer discharged their firearm, police said.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, police said, adding that there were no injuries to officers.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was notified, Toronto police said in a statement to CBC.
Spokesperson Monica Hudon confirmed the SIU is investigating.
