ITHACA, N.Y. – Two goals from Nicolette Kiorpes and a penalty kick from Amalia Dray powered the Boston College women’s soccer team to a 3-1 comeback victory over Cornell on Sunday afternoon at Berman Field.
Cornell opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Emily Gibbons headed home a corner kick to give the Big Red an early 1-0 lead.
The Eagles answered just under two minutes later as Kiorpes leveled the match in the 13th minute. Kiorpes collected the ball at the top of the box and fired a left-footed shot into the bottom left corner for her third goal of the season.
After entering halftime tied at 1-1, Kiorpes put Boston College in front in the 75th minute. Addy Kalaw played a through ball to Kiorpes at the edge of the box, where she finished with her left foot into the bottom left corner to give the Eagles a 2-1 advantage.
Boston College added an insurance goal in the 79th minute when Dray converted a penalty kick, sending a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner to extend the Eagles’ lead to 3-1.
The Eagles’ defense held Cornell scoreless over the final 34 minutes, with Faith Fenwick making four saves to earn her third win of the season.
Kiorpes led the Eagles with six shots, including three on target, while Kalaw and Dray each added two shots. Boston College finished with an 18-11 advantage in shots and earned 10 corner kicks compared to seven for the Big Red.
The Eagles improve to 3-0-0 on the season and remain on the road, traveling to Rutgers on Thursday, Aug. 27, for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
