Groat runs again

Tom Groat is seeking a seat on West Kelowna city council.
Long-time community advocate Tom Groat has launched his campaign for a seat on West Kelowna city council.
His platform will focus on community safety, accessible health care, better roads, connected infrastructure, fiscal accountability, affordable housing and ensuring West Kelowna has a stronger voice with the provincial government.
“Strong communities are built by neighbours who care, listen, and work together to make life better for everyone,” said Groat in a news release announcing his candidacy.
“West Kelowna is a wonderful place to live, but our growing community needs leadership that listens to residents, finds practical solutions, and stands up for the services and investments we deserve.”
He also ran in the 2022 General Local Elections in B.C., but came up short.
Groat moved to West Kelowna nine years ago. For the past six years, he has served as the Shannon Lake Neighbourhood Association president.
Most recently, he has spearheaded neighbourhood efforts to ensure BC Hydro listens to concerns about proposed new transmission routes through the Shannon Lake area. While he believes the work is necessary, he argues the need for a secure power supply must respect neighbourhood character and long-term development plans.
