Two teens were rescued from the Credit River after heavy rainfall in Mississauga on the weekend.
Emergency crews responded to reports that two 18-year-old males entered the river on foot without a boat or personal flotation devices on Saturday at approximately 6:45 p.m., a Peel Regional Police spokesperson told INsauga.com.
Rescue crews were spotted south of the QEW.
“Following heavy rainfall, rising water levels left the two individuals stranded on a small area of land within the river,” the spokesperson said in an email.
Heavy rain started Saturday and continued through Sunday.
The teens contacted police after realizing they couldn’t safely return to shore.
Members of the Marine Unit, along with several uniform officers, attended the scene. Peel Regional Paramedic Services and the fire department also responded as a precaution.
The two teens were brought safely to shore, but declined medical attention, police said.
Police said officers drove the teens back to their homes.
