The Miami Marlins are letting go of the majority of their pro scouting department, club sources told The Athletic on Monday. The sources spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak freely on the topic.
Those familiar with the Marlins’ decision did not specify exactly how many scouts were being let go but said the move reflected the front office’s desire to use more video during the scouting process. Many clubs have cut from their various scouting departments in recent years because more video and information is available on players. For clubs like the Marlins, the scouting job has evolved, changing what they value.
According to club sources, the Marlins will still have some employees in their pro department who scout players in person.
