A female hiker died at Mount Yamnuska last week, according to police.
RCMP said they were called to the area in Kananaskis Country on Aug. 19 at about 5 p.m. after a trail user reported seeing the hiker fall.
Const. Sandra Geiger said police are continuing to investigate, but the death isn’t being treated as suspicious.
Geiger said Kananaskis Emergency Services, Alberta conservation officers and Alpine Helicopters were also on scene.
Paramedics were also called at about 6 p.m., but were stood down before arriving, said Stuart Brideaux, a public information officer with Emergency Health Services Alberta.
The woman’s death is the fourth hiking-related fatality since June in the area of Banff National Park and Kananaskis Country.
According to trail statistics obtained by CBC News in an access to information request, Mount Yamnuska is one of the most popular hiking areas in Kananaskis Country.
From 2022 to 2025, the hike averaged an estimated 43,080 hikers per year.
It was also a common area for rescues, and underwent a realignment of its trail in 2020-21 to increase safety.
A person died in 2023 climbing Yamnuska as well as in September of last year.
