Robert Griffin III is not backing away from his choice for WNBA MVP.
The former NFL quarterback believes Caitlin Clark should win the award, even while acknowledging that Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson is the best player in the league. Griffin restated his position after Clark delivered one of her best performances of the season in the Indiana Fever’s 113-90 victory over the Chicago Sky.
“The WNBA has never seen anything like Caitlin Clark,” Griffin wrote on X.
He identified Olivia Miles as his Rookie of the Year, Kelsey Mitchell as the league’s best scorer and Wilson as its best player. When it came to the definition of most valuable, however, Griffin chose Clark.

Clark’s latest performance strengthened her argument
Clark scored 37 points and handed out 10 assists against Chicago. She shot 13-of-24 from the field and made a career-high eight 3-pointers. It was the fifth game of her WNBA career with at least 30 points and 10 assists. Griffin noted that the rest of the league’s players have combined for four such performances.
Clark is averaging 22.1 points, 8.3 assists and 3.8 rebounds this season. She ranks third in scoring and second in assists, putting her in position to potentially become the first WNBA player to lead the league in assists while finishing among its top three scorers.

Indiana’s success also strengthens her case. The Fever improved to 25-14 with Sunday’s victory and remained within range of a top-three playoff seed. Indiana entered the closing stretch two games behind the second-place Golden State Valkyries and one behind the third-place Aces.
Wilson remains a formidable candidate and was listed first on WNBA.com’s recent MVP ladder, ahead of Miles and Clark. Griffin’s argument is not that Wilson has been anything less than brilliant.
Instead, his case centers on Clark’s value to Indiana and the unprecedented combination of scoring, passing and attention she brings to the court. Whether voters agree remains uncertain. Griffin, however, has made his choice unmistakably clear.
