A dozen Surrey-area cricket players will be in action during the Canada Super 60 event at BC Place this fall.

Men’s and women’s matches of the professional T10 cricket league will be played Sept. 29 to Oct. 4 at the Vancouver stadium, a year after the first edition of the tournament there.

Featured are 24 matches over six days involving six city-based franchises including White Rock Warriors, Brampton Blitz, Mississauga Masters, Montréal Royal Tigers, Toronto Sixers and Vancouver Anchors. The matches, around 90 minutes long, will be streamed on CBC Gem, some on the CBC TV.

“The tournament combines elite competition with entertainment, cultural programming and family-focused experiences beneath the retractable roof of BC Place,” event backers promise.

Surrey-area cricketers involved are Newab Singh, Ajayveer Hundal, Mannat Hundal, Ali Khan, Finley Dixon, Jessica Joseph, Kaleem Sana, Prabhpreet Bhullar, Sukhjinder Singh, Aryan Sidhu and Gurneek Johal.

A Season 2 player draft was held in July, “assembling six star-studded franchise squads featuring some of the biggest names in international cricket,” event planners rave. “With explosive batters, dynamic all-rounders, elite fast bowlers and match-winning performers spread across all six franchises, the draft has laid the foundation for a highly competitive Season 2 that promises to captivate cricket fans across Canada and around the world.”
