The Washington Capitals made some big splashes this offseason, and in the process addressed two of their biggest issues from the 2025-26 season: Goal-scoring and generating offense off the rush.
The trade for Jordan Kyrou and acquisition of Alex Tuch should go a long way toward fixing both.
Tuch’s contract is the classic case of a deal that’s probably going to work out very well in the short-term, but age very poorly by the time it is over.
He has been a pretty consistent 30-goal scorer the past few years, and he might still have a few more years of that level in him before he really starts to slow down. The Capitals should not count on that same level of production from a 34, 35 or 36-year-old Tuch. If they can win big before it gets to that point, with Tuch playing a big role in that, nobody in Washington is going to care.
