Calgary International Airport’s hail-damaged Concourse B is expected to begin reopening to travellers in 2027 as restoration work enters its next phase.
For travellers in Airdrie and surrounding communities who use YYC, the reopening will return another section of the domestic terminal to passenger use after the severe 2024 hailstorm.

Calgary Airports did not provide a specific reopening date in the release.
Much of the work so far has taken place behind construction hoarding and above the ceiling line. Crews have removed damaged materials, completed required roof and building-envelope work and prepared the concourse for further construction.
“The work happening in Concourse B is helping us restore an important part of the terminal to meet the needs of today while preparing it for the years ahead,” said Chris Miles, chief operating officer for Calgary Airports.
“Over the past year, crews made significant progress on the roof above Concourses A and B and continued advancing work required to reopen Concourse B.”
About 60,000 square feet of roofing replaced
Rebuilding the roof has been one of the most significant parts of the restoration.
Calgary Airports says approximately 60,000 square feet of roofing above Concourse B has been replaced.
The new roofing system meets current building and safety standards and includes a thicker, highly reflective membrane. Calgary Airports says it is more durable, improves protection against Calgary’s harsh weather and reduces solar heat absorption.
The next stage will focus on building out the concourse and preparing it to begin reopening in 2027.
Concourse B dates back to 1976
Concourse B was built in 1976 and once handled a broader mix of airport traffic.
Before YYC’s international terminal opened in October 2016, the concourse housed gates for international and U.S. flights and provided access to the former Canada Border Services Agency customs hall.
Those functions moved to the new international terminal in 2016.
Domestic terminal roof work continues into 2028
Restoration work will continue elsewhere in YYC’s domestic terminal after Concourse B begins reopening.
Calgary Airports says roof replacement across the broader domestic terminal is expected to continue into 2028.
