Cyclassics Hamburg winner Paul Magnier leads the line for our team at the last World Tour one-day race of the month.
Held since 1946, Bretagne Classic is a demanding Classic featuring numerous short hills – some of them boasting steep gradients – and technical roads, and that’s before the local circuit, where things become even more complicated. Côte de Ty Marrec and Côte de Lezot are the main difficulties of the day, two climbs perfect for those who want to gamble everything on an all-out attack that can dispatch the sprinters and can create a decisive gap in the final kilometers.
One of August’s most impressive riders, with two victories (Cyclassics Hamburg and Deutschland Tour stage 4) and four additional podiums to his name, Paul Magnier will look to be again in the mix on home roads, motivated by the fact that at his previous participations here he finished both times in the top five.
The 22-year-old Frenchman will be joined on Soudal Quick-Step’s roster for the 90th edition of the Bretagne Classic by former Belgian Champion Yves Lampaert, Andrea Raccagni, Pepijn Reinderink, Paris-Roubaix top-three finisher Jasper Stuyven, Dries Van Gestel and Louis Vervaeke.
“We start with a very strong team on Sunday, a team featuring guys who rode a strong Deutschland Tour, but also some really experienced riders who can help us on the challenging parcours around Plouay. We know it will be a hard and long race, but we are very motivated and confident in our chances of getting another good result”, said sports director Wilfried Peeters.
