Lorenzen was released by the Colorado Rockies after being designated for assignment on Aug. 17.
He had a locker in the Blue Jays’ clubhouse ahead of Thursday’s game against the Kansas City Royals, for which Lorenzen is available out of the bullpen.
The starter will now get a prorated portion of the major-league minimum, per Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi, with Colorado responsible for the remainder of his $8 million salary this season.
In a corresponding move, the Jays optioned RHP Chad Dallas to triple-A Buffalo and transferred outfielder Jonatan Clase to the 60-day injured list.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters that Lorenzen has expressed that he’s prepared to pitch in any role going forward.
Lorenzen last appeared in a game for the Rockies on Aug. 15. The right-hander hadn’t notched a win since June 27 and had gone 3-11 with a 7.08 ERA this season.
The 34-year-old joined the Rockies on a one-year deal in January.
The Blue Jays are managing a beleaguered rotation, with Shane Bieber, Trey Yesavage, Cody Ponce, Jose Berrios and others sidelined by injuries.
