Police are looking to speak with residents of the Gatineau, Que. and Ottawa areas who may have had underwear stolen from their homes over the past few years.
Officers carried out a search warrant on Nov. 20, at a residence in the Manoir des Trembles area in connection with two burglary cases, the Gatineau City Police Service said in a news release Thursday.
During this operation, a Gatineau resident was arrested. He was remanded in custody and later appeared before the Court of Québec, police said.
The investigation continued following his court appearance, resulting in further charges relating to similar offences being authorized.
The accused, 52, offered his services as a “handyman” for various types of work in homes, mainly those of women, police said.
“After he had gained access to the victim’s homes, the victims reported finding underwear that did not belong to them and discovering that some of their own underwear was missing,” the news release reads.
Investigators said they believe the man may have victimized other people in the Manoir des Trembles neighbourhood, as well as elsewhere in Gatineau and Ottawa.
