A new study has found that mental health patients are three times less likely to be admitted to a psychiatric hospital if family and friends are involved in their health care – from group sessions to decision-making.

Open Dialogue is a collaborative way of supporting someone through a mental health crisis, focusing on a support network instead of just the individual.

The approach was first devised in Finland back in the 1980s.
