South Surrey show reunites Essence of Four

The art group Essence of Four has reunited for a new show at Crescent Beach Community Gallery (12160 Beecher St.): Natural Curiosities 2026.
The show, which continues until Sept. 13, is an opportunity for the public to discover new work by the members of Essence of Four, women artists from the South Surrey-White Rock area working in four distinct media disciplines.
Pottery by Ayoe Ingemann is showcased alongside watercolours by Ramona Radu, multimedia works by Karin Hatch and digital art by Jasmina Charleston in the show.
Owned and operated by the City of Surrey, the gallery presents a new show each month featuring a wide variety of art and approaches.
“This is the second year we have run the Natural Curiosities show,” said Charleston.
“As emerging artists, we have learned so much working together and have enjoyed the engagement with the community. … It is such a wonderful opportunity to connect with locals and bring emerging art to people,” she added.
Ingemann, a member of the Semiahmoo Potters, has shown her fanciful and decorative ceramic work earlier this year with them during an exhibit at the gallery.
Radu’s subtly blended, light-infused approach to landscapes produces paintings that are, at once, striking yet deeply meditative.
Hatch blends photography with textiles to create different perspectives on imagery.
Charleston said she only began exploring her fine art career three years ago, but after starting with drawings of flora and fauna that she made into stationery to sell at local markets, she has graduated into digital imagery that has met with great success in public art projects in Surrey, White Rock and Saskatoon.
Her whale drawing was selected as one of the winning images for the City of White Rock’s 2026 street banner program, and is currently featured on lamp standards in the Five Corners area, while one of her pieces won second place in the Arts 2026 juried exhibition facilitated by Surrey Art Gallery and the Arts Council of Surrey.
“I am humbled to be part of all these endeavours after only starting so recently and love to have my art as part of the community as I have learned the joy of connection with locals through my art,” she said.
The Crescent Beach Community Art Gallery is open Wednesday through Friday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and noon to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
