Transit riders in Winnipeg should expect to see some long-term tweaks to bus routes, along with seasonal changes, starting next month.
Winnipeg Transit’s fall schedule is coming into effect on Sunday, Sept. 6, along with several other adjustments.
On Friday, the city released a list of some of the non-seasonal changes that are set to take effect at the same time as the annual route changes.
They include:
New terminals on University Crescent for Routes 678 (Waverley West-Chancellor) and 679 (Waverley). The buses will also travel through Waverley West to help reduce demand on the Blue Line.A new terminal at Polo Park for Route FX4 (Gateway-Portage) for easier transfers.An extended Route 48 (Transcona Blvd-McMeans) between Kildonan Place Mall and Walmart.A Route 649 (Chevrier) extension to better serve Whyte Ridge residents.Route D18 (Notre Dame) will now run down Arlington Street in both directions to simplify service.The southern boundary of On-Request Zone 106 (North East) will be extended from Edison Avenue to Kimberly Avenue.Route 650 (McGillivray) will be shortened to better align with current demand.
The city says additional bus stops have also been added along the FX2 route on Main Street for easier transfers and so that all stops have access to controlled pedestrian crossings.
As well, there are new Blue Line stops on west Portage Avenue, it says.
The city says several improvements coming to effect in September directly respond to rider feedback.
