Another month brought more changes to the restaurant scene in Mississauga and Brampton, with longtime businesses and familiar local spots shutting their doors

Here are three restaurants in Mississauga and Brampton that closed or announced closures in August:

After nearly a decade in Brampton, Harbourside Fish and Chips has closed its doors.

Dean and Helen McCormick opened the Heart Lake restaurant in 2017, serving traditional fish and chips along with shrimp, crab cakes, scallops, poutines and deep-fried desserts. The restaurant was previously ranked among INsauga.com’s top five fish and chips shops in Brampton.

“We have enjoyed serving the Heart Lake community and surrounding area, and have appreciated the outpouring of support throughout the years,” the restaurant said in an Instagram post announcing its closure.

Non-profit cafe and community hub Studio.89 has announced it will close its Mississauga location after 12 years.

The fair trade, vegan cafe at 2520 Eglinton Ave. W. operates as a social enterprise supporting social, cultural and environmental initiatives through community programs, workshops and events.

While the physical cafe is closing, Studio.89 said it will continue its work at venues throughout Mississauga, including programs focused on youth leadership, climate action, art and job skills.

The last day of service will be Sept. 12.

One Brampton location of Mississauga-based Lazeez Shawarma has been closed after its lease was terminated over unpaid rent.

A notice posted at the restaurant at 12 Kennedy Rd. S. said $6,545.58 was owed, along with additional costs associated with the termination. Landmarx Property Management Inc. confirmed the lease had been terminated.

The closure may not be permanent, however. A Landmarx representative said the company was working with Lazeez’s head office to resolve the issue and hoped the restaurant would reopen.
