Kids take aim at Surrey Firefighters in fun charity Nerf battle

Kids battled alongside and against Surrey firefighters for charity at a Nerf foam battle at a golf course in Surrey on Saturday (Aug. 29).
Krysten Guilbault and her husband, Chad, organized the Kids VS Firefighters Event through their new mobile business, Phantom Dart Crew Events, with the net proceeds going to Surrey Firefighters Charitable Society.
Guilbault said this was the first time they have done it for charity, but said it likely won’t be the last.
The inspiration behind supporting the Surrey Firefighters Charitable Society is personal for Guilbault, as her dad was a volunteer firefighter and worked for a company that built fire trucks, Superior E-ONE.
“For me, firefighters are pretty pivotal and heroes in my life. So that was the spark of the idea for this, and we thought, how cool would it be if the kids in the community could just fight some firefighters, like in a Nerf battle.”
Hour-long time-slot tickets were $25 to participate and $5 for spectators for the Aug. 29 event at Clayton Hills Golf Course and The Backyard Golf facilities on Highway 10.
Guilbault has seen firsthand the charity’s impact as a former youth worker in an inner-city school. The school often requested, on behalf of students, food from the society’s snacks program, which delivers snacks to vulnerable students in the Surrey School District.
