MONTREAL (WCAX) – Former Dartmouth standout and current Montreal Victoire star Laura Stacey and her LS7 Foundation took to the streets of Montreal for a day of street hockey competition and fundraising, all in an effort to remove financial barriers for kids to play and enjoy youth sports. After years of successful events in her hometown of Toronto, Saturday was year two in Montreal.
“FillActive and KidSport are the two charities that are receiving all the funds this year. I’ve worked with both of them for a while now, and I love their mission. I love what they’re trying to do,” Stacey said. “Whether it’s Fillactive and getting kids or girls in school, getting them active, trying new sports, trying new things, finding their passion, or KidSport, which gives a season of their sport of choosing covered by the organization. So both are very different, but both really follow that same mission of, how can we break down barriers to sport? How can we make it easier so that every person can have that same opportunity I had to fall in love with something?”
The day began in the morning and ran through late afternoon with games, food trucks and autographs. Participants got to play alongside 33 pros in attendance for the festivities by way of donating or fundraising. Stacey says she’s thankful for players from across the league coming out to support the cause.
“I know it’s a big day, and so to have them to come out year after year, to show up, to play, to sign autographs, it means the most to my foundation,” Stacey said. “It’s the reason this exists, but it also just means the most to me as a human that they want to be here, that they want to support me and my foundation.”
“I think growing up, I didn’t see enough girls in sport like I was, and I think the more girls you can get playing sport, it’s something that really I think helps create a great character in a lot of the young girls,” said Victoire forward Abby Roque. “So I’m really, really happy with the cause.”
With over $100,000 raised in 2025 and $237,000 raised this summer, the event has grown year over year, but the core mission has always remained the same.
“Just from the very beginning, it all started with just the intention of getting out, being involved in the community, being active, and that’s the same mission here today. It’s just amplified, it’s just bigger, and now we’re lucky that amplification, that growth results in hopefully more kids, more individuals getting the chance to try it, getting the chance to be involved in sport, to try hockey, to try lacrosse, soccer, whatever sport they want,” Stacey said. “Find their passion and hopefully they can have a spark, and maybe one day they’ll be in my shoes too with the opportunity to give back, with the opportunity to play pro hockey and chase your dreams.”
