KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 21): Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet) and Ant International have expanded their partnership through a new memorandum of understanding (MOU) to enable global acceptance of Malaysia’s national quick-response code (QR) standard, DuitNow QR, via Ant International’s Alipay+ global wallet gateway.
In a joint statement, the companies said the partnership will focus on four key areas: driving tourism through cross-border digital payments, strengthening fraud defences, talent development, and advancing sustainability.
Through the collaboration, they said Malaysians will soon be able to use their e-wallets or banking apps abroad via Alipay+’s global network of 100 million merchants, significantly expanding DuitNow QR’s international reach.
PayNet group chief executive officer Farhan Ahmad said the MOU not only boosts global acceptance of DuitNow payments, but also marks the start of deeper cooperation in combating fraud, nurturing future-ready talent, and building a more inclusive, sustainable and resilient digital payments ecosystem.
The statement said this partnership will boost Malaysia’s tourism appeal by enabling seamless payments for visitors, channelling spending to local small and medium enterprises, and supporting the national target of 45 million tourists ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026, through global campaigns promoting local businesses.
Backed by PayNet’s trusted infrastructure and Ant International’s global reach, the expanded MOU will enable seamless cross-border payments, strengthen Malaysia’s economy, and lay the groundwork for a future-ready global digital economy, driven by interoperability, security, talent development, and inclusive innovation, it added.
