TORONTO — The Seattle Mariners placed right-hander Emerson Hancock on the 15-day injured list Sunday, retroactive to August 29, because of a strained left adductor.

Hancock started Friday’s loss at Toronto and was shaken up in the first inning when he slid to field Nathan Lukes’ grounder and reached to tag the leaping Blue Jays outfielder.

Hancock stayed in the game and allowed eight hits in five innings, including two homers.

Hancock is 7-8 with a 3.57 ERA in 25 starts.

Manager Dan Wilson said right-hander Bryce Miller, who allowed 21 runs and five homers in four August outings, could start when Hancock’s turn in the rotation comes up at Boston on Wednesday.

Right-hander Nick Davila was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma and allowed three runs in one inning in Sunday’s 7-0 loss to the Blue Jays, Seattle’s fourth straight defeat.
