Prosecutor Binu Palal replayed testimony from James “Mob James” McDonald, a MOB Piru gang member, during his closing statement Monday.
“It was a gang war,” McDonald, 61, said in the video clip played. He testified on August 19 and described himself as a “hostile witness” who didn’t want to testify.
“Were they the only ones that they wanted to kill? Am I the only one up in this? No, they weren’t the only one. It’s his neighborhood in particular, but they were the main subjects of a gang war,” McDonald said.
Palal also referenced some of McDonald’s other statements.
“What Mob James said is, you had no choice. You had no choice. You could not go back to Compton having gotten beaten publicly,” he said. “The need for retaliation exists without a single word.”
“‘Mob James’ McDonald knew exactly who he was hunting for that night: Orlando Anderson and Duane Davis,” Palal said.
