140 soccer games were played at South Surrey Athletic Park on Aug. 28 – 30 for the inaugural launch of the Qualico Cup.
Founded by Surrey Football Club, the Badwal Family, and the Pooni Group, this tournament brought teams from all over the Lower Mainland and B.C. to compete in a friendly competition in preparation for the regular season starting in September.
“The Qualico Cup has been designed to provide a first-class tournament experience that emphasizes player development, meaningful competition, sportsmanship, and community,” says the Qualico Cup’s webpage.
The new local tournament saw both girl and boy teams playing to win their age bracket and take home trophies and medals that were presented by professional Whitecaps players.
Tournament players, coaches and parents were thrilled with the Caps in attendance and waited patiently in line for photos and signatures throughout the tournament’s final day.
Those players in attendance on Sunday (Aug. 30) were Jeevan Badwal, Belal Halbouni, Isaac Boehmer, Ralph Priso, and Brian White.
Surrey Football Club posted on their social media accounts after the tournament sharing congratulations to all teams and thanks to everyone who made the tournament possible.
“What an incredible tournament! Huge congratulations to all the teams who left it all on the field, the coaches and sponsors who made it happen, and the amazing fans who brought the energy every single day,” says the social media post.
Surrey Football Club shared that the Qualico Cup will return next year and teams should go to surreyfc.com/qualicocup for more information and updates on when to register teams for the 2027 tournament.
