WINNIPEG – Manitoba’s police watchdog is investigating after officers Tasered a naked, fleeing man who later died in hospital.
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba says Winnipeg police were responding to several calls early Sunday morning about a man walking up and down a street in the city’s east end in an “erratic manner” while removing his clothes.
Winnipeg police say one of the calls came from the 42-year-old man himself, who said he and a woman were having a bad experience from drugs.

Police say that soon after, a call came in from a nearby resident who reported a man had broken into his home and assaulted him before leaving.
The IIU says that officers found the naked man and tried to get him to comply with orders but the man fled, leading to a chase and the police using a Taser on him.
It says the man soon became unresponsive, and he was taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
