One detail stands out in Eric Engels’ latest information.

The Arber Xhekaj situation could take longer to resolve than Zachary Bolduc‘s. In fact, Xhekaj’s case could drag on for quite a while, which is somewhat concerning.

The journalist believes Zachary Bolduc should sign before the September 16 medicals, which mark the start of training camp, giving a very specific deadline.

But when it comes to Xhekaj, he points to a longer timeline without giving any specific reason for the difference between the two situations.

“According to Eric Engels, a deal for Arber Xhekaj could take a little longer.”

It’s especially surprising considering how popular Arber Xhekaj remains within the Montreal Canadiens organization.

Remember, his own captain, Nick Suzuki, recently described him as a very important piece of the locker room, both on and off the ice.

Arber Xhekaj contract delay adds uncertainty as Canadiens training camp approaches

His agent, Brian Bartlett, had been reassuring in July before becoming much quieter in recent days, a noticeable change in tone.

He almost seemed concerned.

The extra delay could be explained by more complicated discussions surrounding the structure or length of the contract, though the details remain unknown. But it could also mean many different things.

Official training camp begins September 16, leaving both sides with some time to finalize negotiations.

That’s never particularly positive news, especially with training camp only a few weeks away.
