A cup of coffee in Metro Vancouver isn’t cheap these days.
A java run could cost you $4 on the cheap end, or $7 or more for more expensive brews. But how about $190?
That’s the fine a Tesla driver is shelling out for after parking in front of a Metro Vancouver Starbucks — like, right in front, on the sidewalk.
Burnaby RCMP shared photos of the illegal parking job at the Starbucks at 2330 Holdom Ave.
“Is coffee important?” reads the post. “Yes, for many.”
“Is coffee ‘parking on a sidewalk important’?”
“No!”
Driver plans to dispute the ticket
The RCMP says the parking spot was grounds for a $190 fine.
In an email to Vancouver Is Awesome, the police note the car was spotted at 6:45 a.m. on a recent Monday morning.
“Two women associated to the vehicle walked out of the coffee shop with multiple beverages and approached our officer,” reads the email. “The driver stated she didn’t know she was not allowed to park on the sidewalk.”
She went on to tell the police she’d dispute the ticket.
Burnaby RCMP add that often cars park illegally to grab a coffee around the city, but rarely do they park in pedestrian-dedicated spaces.
