Police have charged a Toronto man after allegedly trying to convince a group of children to get into his car north of Brampton.
The incident police are describing as an attempted child abduction happened on Saturday around 7:20 p.m. in the area of Dotchson Avenue and Sparrowbrook Street Caledon, the OPP says.
Investigators say a group of children were approached by a lone male in a white car who “attempted to persuade them to get into his vehicle.”
But police say the kids refused the man’s advances, and that the suspect left the area in the vehicle. The suspect was described as an elderly man of South-Asian descent, while the vehicle was described as a white Honda Civic sedan with “extensive” damage to its front-end.
Police say an investigation into the incident has led to the arrest of a 74-year-old man from Toronto, who is charged with one count of abduction of a person under 14.
The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing in Orangeville on Wednesday. Police have not released the name of the suspect.
“Investigators believe there may be additional victims and are appealing for parents or guardians to speak with their children regarding the possibility of similar instances,” the OPP says.
