CFL DFS Picks and Cheat Sheet for Week 14 on DraftKings

The CFL’s Week 14 slate is spread out over Labour Day weekend, kicking off Friday with a Lions-Alouettes clash and then wrapping up with a Monday doubleheader that features the 8-3 Elks. We also have an idle day Saturday and a marquee Blue Bombers-Roughriders battle Sunday. 

As customary, we’ll break down multiple options for each roster spot and also offer a trio of core plays to consider making the centerpiece of your lineups.

Quarterback Plays for CFL Week 14

Davis Alexander, MTL at BC ($10,100): Alexander is putting together a stellar season that’s seen him complete 72.5 percent of his passes and average a career-high 332.5 passing yards per game, while also mustering an elite 24:2 TD:INT across 11 contests. Alexander’s most recent masterpiece came just last week against the Blue Bombers, when he threw four touchdown passes without an interception while registering 28.0 DK points, his eighth tally of greater than 23 DK points this season.

The Lions have been about middle of the pack against the pass, allowing 298.0 passing yards per game. However, BC has surrendered a co-league-high 23 touchdown passes as well, along with the fourth-most completions of 30+ yards (21). Meanwhile, Alexander is averaging a career-high 10.2 yards per attempt and has a league-high 29 completions of at least 30 yards, making this a premium matchup.

Cody Fajardo, EDM at CGY ($10,000): Fajardo is in the midst of a career-best season in his own right, as he’s already tied a career high with 18 touchdown passes and is averaging a career-high 306.2 passing yards per contest. He’s added another three scores on the ground as part of his 218 rushing yards, and he’ll enter a favorable Week 14 matchup with three straight tallies of greater than 21 DK points. 

The opposing Stampeders make for good targets, as Calgary is surrendering 318.4 passing yards per game and has also conceded a co-league-high 23 touchdown passes to tie them with BC for the dubious lead in that category. Calgary has also conceded the second-most completions of 30+ yards (24), while Fajardo is averaging a solid 9.2 yards per attempt and has 18 completions of 30+ yards.

Tre Ford, HAM vs. TOR ($9,500): Ford is the current flavor of the month when it comes to the Tiger-Cats’ ongoing attempts to stabilize the QB position following Bo Levi Mitchell‘s serious ankle injury earlier this season. Ford’s current starting stint is technically his second following Mitchell’s injury, and he seems to be locked into a rhythm at the moment in terms of his play. Ford has accrued 19.5 and 24.5 DK points in his two most recent starts in Weeks 12 and 13, throwing for 356 and 212 yards in that pair of contests.

The Argonauts could well facilitate an extension of Ford’s encouraging stretch of play, as Toronto has been very vulnerable to the pass all season. The Argos are surrendering 318.7 passing yards per game at 9.4 yards per attempt, along with an elevated 68.9 percent completion rate. Then, Toronto has also given up a league-high 27 completions of 30+ yards, setting up Ford, who already has eight completions of 30+ yards, for some potential downfield success.

Running Back Plays for CFL Week 14

Zander Horvath, BC at MTL ($10,600): Horvath’s breakout season continued in fine fashion in Week 13, when he compiled a career-high 50.4 DK points on the strength of 164 rushing yards and four touchdowns against the Redblacks. The versatile back also has a tally of 40.1 DK points this season, and he’s recorded 14.6 DK points or greater on seven occasions already despite starting the season in a minor role behind veteran James Butler. Horvath is being consistently used in the passing game as well, affording him a very solid floor regardless of matchup. 

The Alouettes have given up a relatively modest 98.6 rushing yards per game, but they’ve done so at an elevated clip of 5.6 yards per carry. Montreal has also given up the third-most rushing touchdowns (14), and the Als have yielded the fourth-most runs of 10+ yards (38). Meanwhile, Horvath already has a league-high 13 rushing touchdowns and 15 rushes of 10+ yards, including six of 20+. With an average of 6.0 yards per carry and a 21-205-3 receiving line, Horvath’s fantasy floor is among the top at any position. 

Brady Oliveira, WPG at SSK ($9,600): Oliveira continues to deal with an ankle injury this week, but that issue didn’t prevent him from recording over 100 rushing yards in each of the last two games while posting DK-point tallies of 17.9 and 20.8 DK points. The versatile veteran is actually averaging 22.5 DK points over the five games dating back to Week 8 against the Stampeders, and he comes into Week 14 just 44 rushing yards short of his fifth straight 1,000-yard season. 

Oliveira is averaging a career-high 6.2 yards per carry as well, and his 27 runs of 10+ yards are second only to the Elks’ Justin Rankin‘s 29. The Roughriders present as a tough on-paper matchup against the run, as they’ve allowed the second-fewest rushing yards per game (72.5). However, they’ve allowed it at a clip of 4.6 yards per carry and have given up 25 runs of 10+ yards, suggesting Oliveira could continue churning out strong production as long as he’s able to suit up and the Blue Bombers stick with the run.

Wide Receiver/Slotback Plays for CFL Week 14

Tyson Philpot, MTL vs. BC ($10,700): The caliber of Philpot’s season is such that even when he has a slight downturn in yardage, he still churns out highly useful fantasy production. The most recent example is the last two games, when Philpot has recorded 28.5 and 21.7 DK points despite posting respective tallies of 75 and 87 receiving yards in those contests. Philpot has gotten there with the help of nine- and seven-catch efforts, as well as three total TDs that brought his season total to a career-best 10 in that category. 

The vulnerabilities of the Lions defense against the pass were already detailed in Rourke’s entry, and Philpot is well-equipped to exploit BC’s penchant for allowing chunk plays downfield, considering he has a league-leading 1,316 receiving yards and 10 catches of 30+ yards. Philpot also has a CFL-high 116 targets, affording him a very reliable floor that’s helped lead to a season average of 27.3 DK points per contest.

Damonte Coxie, TOR at HAM ($9,600): Coxie’s rapport with Chad Kelly has continued to blossom throughout the season, and the speedy receiver comes into Week 14 having eclipsed 22 DK points in three of the past four games. Coxie just posted his third 145-yard-plus tally of the season in Week 13 as well, getting to 146 yards on just five catches versus the Roughriders. Coxie has already compiled a career-best 943 receiving yards, making it very possible he reaches the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career during this game. 

The opposing Tiger-Cats have surrendered a 70.4 percent completion rate on the season, as well as 18 touchdown passes. Hamilton has done a good job limiting big plays, but Coxie has proven capable of producing in all three passing windows. He’s averaging a robust 16.8 yards per catch and has the second-most second-down receptions in the league (21), and Coxie also carries a solid floor considering he’s averaging 8.2 targets per contest.

Austin Mack, EDM at CGY ($9,400): Mack has enjoyed a highly productive reunion with Fajardo this season in Edmonton, with the veteran duo recreating a lot of the magic they’d managed during the 2023 campaign in Montreal. Mack is already within striking distance of his second 1,000-yard season – the first having come in that aforementioned season with the Alouettes – and he’s recorded a career-high seven touchdowns across 11 games as well on the way to an average of 17.7 DK points. per contest.

As already detailed in Fajardo’s entry, the Stampeders have been highly vulnerable against the pass. Calgary has especially had trouble preventing big plays downfield, while Mack is averaging 15.6 yards per reception and has six catches of 30+ yards. The veteran receiver is also averaging just under eight targets per game, and while Mack has the fifth-most yards after the catch in the CFL (302), the Stamps have surrendered the fifth-most yards after reception in the league (1,288).

Jermaine Jackson, BC at MTL ($5,600): Jackson’s week-to-week production has been a bit hard to trust, but that volatility is baked into his very reasonable salary. Additionally, the speedy slotback has already flashed a particularly impressive ceiling on two occasions, scoring 29.9 and 19.8 DK points in a pair of games. The latter total just came in Week 13 against the Redblacks, only two games after Jackson also had an impressive 89-yard effort versus the Stampeders. 

The Alouettes have generally done a good job limiting big plays through the air, as they’ve yielded a league-low 12 completions of 30+ yards. However, Montreal has surrendered 287.5 passing yards per game and 19 touchdown passes, along with the third-most yards after the catch in the CFL (1,333). Meanwhile Jackson is averaging a stellar 19.2 yards per reception and already has four catches of 30+ yards on only 29 total receptions, and he’s averaging a stout 7.4 yards after the catch per grab as well.

Team Defense Plays for CFL Week 14

Hamilton Tiger-Cats ($3,700) vs. Toronto Argonauts: 

The Ti-Cats may not have fully maximized their potential against Stamps backup quarterback Josh Love in Week 13, but Hamilton still recorded an interception and three more sacks. The Ti-Cats are up to 12 interceptions (third most in the CFL) and 18 sacks, and they rank No. 3 in total yards and No. 2 in passing yards allowed. The matchup against the Argonauts’ offense, particularly the passing attack, is no picnic, but there should be some sack and turnover opportunities.

Toronto’s Chad Kelly has already tossed 17 interceptions in 11 games, and he’s also taken 20 sacks. The Ti-Cats are also tied for the third-fewest total touchdowns allowed (35), and they already picked Kelly off once while sacking him twice during the first meeting of the season between the teams back in Week 6. While the Argos are very likely to still pile up some formidable numbers through the air, the Ti-Cats could well make their selection worthwhile with multiple sacks and turnovers. 

CFL DFS Cheat Sheet for Week 14

Total salary expenditure: $29k

We’re looking to lock in some floor with this trio and also take advantage of a strong matchup for the Elks’ passing game. Fajardo has already tied a career high with 18 touchdown passes, and he’s completing over 70.0 percent of his passes for the fifth straight season. He and Mack have an enticing matchup against a Stampeders defense allowing well over 300 passing yards per game, while Oliveira is putting together another outstanding all-around season that has him just 44 rushing yards short of his fifth straight 1,000-yard campaign.
