Expect some nice weekend weather starting Saturday.
The Metro Vancouver weather forecast may look a tad dreary right now. But blue skies likely await us over the Labour Day long weekend.
A low-pressure system off the coast of the U.S. will continue to float around into Friday (Sept. 4) before slowly sinking southward, says Environment Canada meteorologist Terri Lang.
“And it should be out of the area by Saturday, and then [we’ll have] more stable conditions and temperatures near normal,” she explains.
A few showers and grey skies aren’t too much for Vancouverites to handle, but recent, record-setting thunderstorms might have them a tad antsy. But the current system isn’t anything significant, particularly compared with recent tempests.
“Because it’s sinking southward, we aren’t expecting too much in the way of rain and wind,” she notes, but adds that “Isolated thunderstorms are possible.”

After the system moves out of the region Saturday, near-seasonal temperatures around 20 C will continue through the weekend, accompanied by a mix of sun and cloud.
“Not hot and dusty and not cold and wet,” she says. “The temperatures stay fairly typical heading into [mid-next week].”
But later next week another low-pressure system off the Pacific should bring cooler, wetter conditions. The storm will impact Alaska and northern B.C. before sliding down to the Lower Mainland, bringing showers and some wind.
Lang says it doesn’t currently look like a powerful system, but the department “will keep an eye on it.”
