History

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women’s soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss to the UNCW Seahawks on Thursday evening at the CCU Soccer Complex.


With the loss, the Chants fall to 1-1-0 on the season.
The match remained scoreless at the end of the first half, with UNCW leading in shots (4-3), corners (4-1), and fouls (7-5).
Rami Rapp accounted for two of Coastal’s three shots in the opening frame.
Possession was split evenly at 50% apiece in the first half.
The Seahawks broke the deadlock in the 46th minute when Allie Planeaux found the bottom-left corner of the net to make it 1-0.
Coastal nearly equalized a minute later, firing three consecutive shots, all of which were blocked to keep the score at 1-0.
The Chants finally broke through in the 57th minute when Madison Micheletti drew a penalty. Dolcie O’Connor stepped up to the spot and buried her attempt into the right side netting to level the score at 1-1.
In the 80th minute, UNCW regained the lead on a Coastal own goal that deflected in off a corner kick.
At full time, Coastal held an 11-9 edge in shots, paced by Eleanor Ashton, Micheletti, Lauryn Barringer, and Rapp, who each recorded two attempts.

The Chanticleers will return to the CCU Soccer Complex on Aug. 24 to take on Belmont at 1 p.m. ET.
