Mizuno has expanded its Pro Signature Series with the launch of the new S-4, a tour-inspired cavity back designed to deliver the highest level of forgiveness in the range to date.

Joining the existing Mizuno Pro S-1 and S-3, the S-4 is aimed at accomplished golfers who want the compact looks, forged feel and control associated with Mizuno Pro, but with additional launch, stability and forgiveness.

The Signature Series has been developed around the differing requirements of better players rather than a single iron profile. While the S-1 offers the traditional characteristics of a muscle back and the S-3 provides a more versatile player’s cavity design, the S-4 moves further towards forgiveness without abandoning the appearance and feedback expected from a Mizuno Pro iron.

To achieve this, Mizuno has given the S-4 increased offset, a wider sole, lower sweet spot height and deeper centre of gravity. The combination is designed to make the ball easier to launch while improving stability and consistency on off-centre strikes.

A progressive construction also sees the profile change through the set. Longer irons feature additional offset and design characteristics intended to inspire more confidence at address and promote easier launch, while the scoring irons become progressively more compact to provide greater precision and control.

Mizuno has also incorporated its Triple-Cut Sole, with the sole geometry engineered to improve turf interaction across different conditions and help the club maintain speed through impact.

Despite the additional forgiveness, the construction remains firmly rooted in Mizuno’s traditional forged-iron approach. Each S-4 head is forged from a single billet of 1025E Pure Select Mild Carbon Steel using the brand’s Grain Flow Forged HD process.

A copper underlay is used to further refine vibration and feedback at impact, while Mizuno’s Harmonic Impact Technology tunes the acoustics and vibration of the head to produce the solid sound and responsive feel associated with the Mizuno Pro family.

The S-4 also retains the visual identity of the Signature Series. A redesigned cavity muscle uses softer, flowing geometry to redistribute mass and increase stability, while a progressive topline and offset progression help retain the clean appearance expected from a player-focused iron.

With the arrival of the S-4, Mizuno now offers three distinct performance profiles within the Signature Series, giving fitters and retailers greater scope to match accomplished golfers to their preferred combination of looks, feel, control and forgiveness.

The S-1 sits at the precision end of the range, the S-3 provides a more versatile player’s cavity option, while the new S-4 offers the greatest assistance and forgiveness of the three.

The Mizuno Pro S-4 is available from 3-iron through to pitching wedge in both right- and left-handed configurations, priced at £215 per iron.
