Two people have been arrested and police are looking for two more in connection with a home invasion and shooting in Brampton, Ont., in June.
In a news release Friday, Peel Regional Police said five people were asleep in a home in the area of McLaughlin Road and Steeles Avenue W. on June 14.
At approximately 4:30 a.m., three suspects forcibly entered the home through a rear glass door, police said. A fourth suspect remained inside a nearby vehicle, they said.
Police say two of the home’s occupants suffered gunshot wounds during the incident.
Both victims were transported to hospital but have since been released, the release said.
Officers arrested an 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old youth from Toronto on July 15, police said. The two were each charged with eight offenses, including attempted murder using a firearm, aggravated assault, robbery and failure to comply with sentence or disposition.
Police cannot identify the 16-year-old under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
One of the outstanding suspects was armed with a handgun and is described as a male with a dark complexion, approximately six feet tall with a heavy build. Police say there is no description available for the second suspect, who was the driver of the getaway vehicle.
In a post to social media platform X, Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah said violent home invasions have “a profound impact” on victims and communities.
“When individuals are targeted in their own homes, it undermines the sense of safety and security that every resident deserves to feel,” he said.
