The Blue Jays claimed catcher Shawn Ross off waivers from the New York Mets, the team announced Saturday.
Ross was then optioned to triple-A Buffalo.
The 26-year-old catcher made his MLB debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2026, appearing in two big-league games before he was claimed by the Mets.
In 70 games split between the triple-A and double-A level this season, Ross is slashing .184/.333/.418 with 13 doubles and 11 home runs.
He likely won’t see any time with the Blue Jays this season unless Alejandro Kirk or Brandon Valenzuela suffer an injury.
