How the Prospect Parade works

The Prospect Parade is a recurring series where I highlight the hottest MLB prospects. It’s a snapshot of who’s forcing my attention right now and the traits they are exhibiting that could indicate the best is yet to come. Every player gets an embedded TJStats card with season-long metrics, a rolling 14-day window covering the current heater, and my take on what’s actually driving the surge.

Andrew Fischer has not slowed down in his pro debut season. With a staggering 1.066 OPS on the year and a record-tying 46 HR, Fischer has solidified himself as one of the most prolific sluggers in MiLB. His underlying power metrics such as his 107.2 mph EV90 and 58.6 HardHit% make it clear that Fischer’s output is not a mirage.

Fischer is gradually inching closer to being a Top 100 prospect, but his contact woes still persist. He is taking AA by storm where his explosive bat continues to impress, but the strikeout rate remains scarily high.

Tai Peete was included as part of the return in the Brandon Donovan trade over the winter. At the time of the deal, Peete was seen as a lottery ticket with plus power and a swing geared for pulling fly balls, but with a worrisome hit tool. Those same traits have followed him to St. Louis; however, he has greatly improved his performance and now finds himself in AA. His 106.0 mph EV90 and 44.2 HardHit% comfortably place him above the MLB average, although he will need to clean up his contact concerns and aggressive swing decisions to reach his potential.

Peete’s exciting suite of tools made him an intriguing trade target for the Cardinals prior to this season, and his stock has been trending up this year.

Gavin Grahovac has kicked off the start to his pro career well as he already knocked 8 HR in just 24 games. The big-bodied first baseman out of Texas A&M was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2026 draft and wields projectible raw power and a knack for keeping the ball in the air. Over the last two weeks he has registered 8 XBH, including 5 HR, in addition to a trio of SB.

Grahovac is punching below his weight class in Lo-A, but he has the frame and strength to be a potential breakout bat in the Angels system next season.

Echedry Vargas was presented with an uncommon move to start the year: a demotion to Lo-A after playing the entirety of 2025 in Hi-A. A move like this typically spells the end of a prospect’s allure, but Vargas has flipped his career around this year. The 21-year-old shortstop has been nearly unstoppable, posting a .983 OPS with 27 HR across 103 games. This performance is supported by strong quality of contact metrics in addition to an overwhelmingly aggressive approach.

Vargas’ eventual return to Hi-A will be telling for his future in the Marlins system.

Nick McLain graduated from honourable mention in last week’s issue of the Prospect Parade to a prime feature after another strong showing in Hi-A. The White Sox 3rd round pick from the 2024 draft has been nearly unstoppable since his promotion. He improved his season OPS from .686 to .839 and doubled his HR total from Lo-A (2) in fewer games. Supporting this surge is a blend of patience and contact in addition to stronger batted ball metrics.

McLain does not project to be more than a depth infielder, but it is nice to see his power and production take a step forward before the season concluded.

Axiel Plaz picked the right time to have the best stretch of his season as he slashed  .452/.553/.935 across the final two weeks of the year to put a cap on his breakout campaign. The Pirates catcher joined my Top 100 Prospect list following the draft thanks to his incredible underlying metrics and improving defense behind the plate. His power continues to shine through as his 110.1 mph EV90 ranks near the top of MiLB. At the moment, his most glaring flaw is his inability to consistently lift and pull the ball. Thankfully, he makes enough solid contact that his suboptimal spray tendencies have yielded strong results.

Plaz is Rule 5 Eligible this December and the Pirates will certainly protect him. This distinction should make him a potential call-up in 2027 despite being just 21-years-old.

Sebastian Walcott is making up for lost time after missing the 1st half of the year following Tommy John Surgery. Fortunately, it seems like the operation has had no adverse effects on the Rangers’ top prospect. He continues to consistently crush the ball as illustrated by his 109.1 mph EV90 and has launched 9 HR in just 34 games. Notably, he is hitting the ball in the air more frequently — a trait that hindered his offensive production throughout his pro career. This improvement is directly tied to his more simplified swing and concentrated effort to transfer more load to his back leg.

Walcott’s combination of power and athleticism makes him one of the most exciting batters in MiLB and one that could feasibly earn the crown as the #1 ranked prospect.

Josiah Ragsdale, the Brewers’ 7th-round selection from the 2025 draft and now Cardinal, has performed like a top prospect this season. Since the trade, he continues to be unfazed by tougher competition, smacking 3 HR and posting a 1.197 OPS. Ragsdale’s production is backed up by strong quality of contact metrics (51.1 HardHit%) and both above-average whiff and chase rates.

Ragsdale was punching above his weight class in Hi-A to start the season and now faces a much tougher task in the Southern League — although he is taking it in stride. I now consider him a Top 100 prospect!

Jake Gelof, brother of Athletics 2B Zack, is a force to be reckoned with in AA this season as he smacked 32 HR while posting a .922 OPS. This explosion of power is supported by some of the strongest batted ball metrics at the level, including a 106.7 mph EV90 and 47.5 HardHit%, and a prolific pull-air approach. Like many sluggers with his archetype, Gelof has had trouble with swing and miss this season, most notably against offspeed pitches.

Gelof will be Rule 5 eligible at the end of the season and his performance this year virtually guarantees his protection.

Johanfran Garcia flew under-the-radar as one of the youngest players in AA as he posted a .838 OPS and launched 18 HR. He solidified his strong campaign with a stellar showing in the last two weeks. He slashed  .371/.488/.714 during that timeframe in addition to hitting 4 HR. His underlying power metrics paint him as one of the loudest bats in the Red Sox system and one of the strongest 21-year-old batters in MiLB.

Unfortunately, Garcia’s impressive bat speed is accompanied by scarily high whiff rates and an unsustainably aggressive approach.

Lan-Hong Su picked the correct time to fire off his two best starts of the season as he struck out a career-high 7 batters, which he then eclipsed with 9 K just a few days later. The teenage righty’s 5.10 ERA is not a pretty sight, but his 28.4% K% tell a much more positive story. His most effective pitch is a mid-80s splitter which has yielded an impressive 40% whiff rate this season. His ability to kill spin aids in the pitch’s late-breaking and diving nature.

Lan-Hong Su is a ways away from the Majors, yet he is one of the few arms in the Padres system that has the traits to project him a potential MLB starter.

After missing the 2024 season following TJS and struggling to find his footing upon his return last season, Odle has made up for lost time, posting a 3.19 ERA and 34.1% K% across 96.0 IP this season. He is sitting 97 mph on his fastball, which he supplements with a hard two-plane curveball, tight high-80s slider, and a 90 mph changeup — all of which grade out very well. He capped off his breakout season with an utterly dominant, and career-high, 12 K performance in his final start.

Odle may have the best stuff in the Cardinals system and is quickly making a name for himself as one of the most frightening arms to face in the lower minors.

Ben Jacobs was a buzzy name around draft time last year despite his seemingly lacklustre results in Arizona State. While the walks and damage against were not encouraging, Jacobs caught the eyes of evaluators thanks to his deceptive fastball and pair of secondaries which yielded elite whiff rates throughout his college career. These same traits have yielded excellent results this year, including a 35.1% K%. His final start was arguably his best as he struck out a career-high 10 batters while issuing 0 walks.

Jacobs is rapidly trending upward in the Tigers system and is comfortably ranked inside my Top 100 prospects.

After missing all of 2025 following TJS, Perry is running an absurd 35.7% while consistently throwing strikes. His arsenal is headlined by a high-riding, mid-90s fastball, a late-fading changeup, and a pair of breaking balls. A frightening play where he took a comebacker off his head forced him to miss a few weeks in the middle of the season, but he has continued to look stellar in his subsequent starts.

Perry has performed like one of the best pitchers in MiLB this season and should be considered a consensus Top 100 prospect entering next year.

Liomar Martinez was a Marlins pitching prospect that I highlighted as a potential breakout candidate this season. While he has not lived up to expectations with a 5.19 ERA, he has been a dominant strikeout artist — the same trait that caught my eye entering the season. His 33.0% K% ranks near the top of Hi-A starters and was further boosted by 24 K across 17.0 innings with 2 ER over his last three starts. His slider and curveball have been excellent this year with both offerings posting a 40% whiff rate in addition to great results.

Martinez will need to clean up on his walks and further develop his offspeed pitch to stick as a starter. I really hope he can do that because the breaking balls are special.

Sadbiel Delzine popped up onto many radars after he was touching the upper 90s in the complex league this season. While his results in short season ball were solid, he has found a new gear following his promotion to Lo-A. Across 7 starts at the level, the 18-year-old righty has posted a 2.52 ERA supported by an incredible 28.5 K-BB% and stellar 67.6 Strike%. He wields a 5-pitch mix consisting of a mid-90s fastball, a sharp dropping changeup and a trio of breaking balls. His secondaries are his most effective offerings at the moment and play well off his higher release point.

The Red Sox have readily churned out quality pitching prospects in recent years and Delzine looks like another arm that could take MiLB by storm next season. He is a name to follow.

Caden Hunter was a frequent feature on the Prospect Parade during his time in Lo-A and Hi-A, and he continues his reign after a strong stretch following his promotion to AA. The Orioles’ 6th-round selection in the 2025 draft out of USC is a prototypical lefty starter with a mid-90s riding fastball, sharp changeup, and a pair of breaking balls. On the season, his 36.9% strikeout rate illustrates how untouchable he has been to start his pro career.

Hunter, one of the more recent additions to my Top 100 Prospects, has handled AA well and added to the trend of hot starts by the cohort of arms Baltimore drafted in 2025.

Johnny King has been a prospect crush for me since his pro debut last season, and his trajectory has been a pleasure to watch. A quick ascent through the Blue Jays system indicated their confidence in the teenage southpaw, and his results speak for themselves. He ranks near the top of MiLB with a 2.91 ERA and 30.7% K%, although his poor 13.7% BB% puts a stain on his profile. Thankfully, King has an electric fastball-curveball combo which gives him a stable foundation to build upon and his changeup has started to come into its own this season. His recent promotion to AA illustrates the Blue Jays confidence in the young southpaw, and he has kept the walks in check over his most recent starts.

King is a clear-cut Top 50 prospect for me and he continues to excel against batters multiple years his senior. He has plenty of time to iron out his command issues.

Patrick Forbes, the 29th pick in the 2025 draft, missed the start of the season with a right flexor strain and then missed just over a month with right elbow discomfort in July. Thankfully, he has remained on the mound since his return in the 2nd half and has not looked back. On the year he has posted a 2.73 ERA and 35.3% K%, living up to his draft pedigree. He has relied heavily on his fastball, using it over 60% of the time this season. He has touched 98 mph on the offering and it has yielded a strong 29% whiff rate in addition to limiting hard contact.

This season was effectively a write-off for Forbes, but at least he has been able to end the year strong. He feels like a prime candidate to get in some extra reps in the AFL in the autumn.

Mason Molina was a steady producer in AA into the middle of season, which earned him a promotion to AAA just before the start of the 2nd half. While his time at the level has been bumpy, he found some consistency in his last two starts as he struck out 14 batters across 9.0 scoreless innings. The Cardinals southpaw wields a peculiar changeup with a high degree of spin. This unconventional trait causes the offering to experience significant arm-side run, further diverging the pitch from his fastball. It is by far his most effective offering and his most used secondary.

Molina has the tools to be a backend starter for the Cardinals as soon as next season.
