The Detroit Lions are coming up on a new season, and it’s critical that the team’s offense really delivers. One of the Lions’ biggest stars on offense is running back Jahmyr Gibbs.
Last season, Gibbs clocked 1,223 yards and 13 touchdowns over 17 games, according to ESPN. He’s absolutely imperative to this offense to make it sing and soar.
Well, a panel of NFL experts believe in Gibbs. In fact, they have a bold projection for him this season that’s nothing but good news for Gibbs and the Lions.
Jahmyr Gibbs gets a major vote of confidence from NFL experts
On Tuesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN released a tally of predictions from NFL execs on upcoming award winners. They have Gibbs winning Offensive Player of the Year.
“He’ll rise to the occasion as the lead back; the Lions will be competitive; and they’ll probably be in a lot of shootouts, which will help Gibbs’ production,” a veteran NFL scout said, according to Fowler.
The only negative here is that Fowler points out the Lions don’t have much depth behind Gibbs. They’re really relying on him. “Backups Sione Vaki and Jacob Saylors have combined for nine NFL rushing attempts,” he notes. “Veteran Isiah Pacheco is on injured reserve.”
So, Gibbs has to stay healthy, or else the Lions are really in a pickle. But, if he does, he could have a fantastic season ahead.
Other players who received votes for the honor were Ja’Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals and Bijan Robinson of the Atlanta Falcons. But, Gibbs got the projected win.
