MANHATTAN, Kan.- K-State women’s tennis head coach Jordan Smith has announced the fall schedule, beginning on September 11. The season includes 12 potential tournaments as four competitions are based on qualifying Wildcats performances.
The first weekend of the fall, September 11-13, two tournaments take place, the Milwaukee Tennis Classic in Milwaukee, Wis., and Kitty Harrison Invitational hosted by North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. Last season Martaa Chogsomjav won the singles title at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic as a freshman.
The first Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) tournament takes place for qualifiers on September 19-27 with the ITA All-Americans in Cary, N.C. That same weekend, on September 25-26, Omaha and Creighton will host a joint invitational in Omaha, Neb.
The Wildcats will also split competition on October 1-4 with the Hoosiers Classic in Bloomington, Ind., and Big 12 Fall Championship, hosted by Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla. The entire Cats squad will be prepped for the ITA Central Regional Championship on October 14-19 in Memphis, Tenn.
To end the month, two Big 12 conference schools will host their own tournaments, on October 22-25 is the Battle for the Boot JAE Foundation Open in Fort Worth, Texas, at TCU. Following that, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament in Sumter, S.C., takes place on October 26-30, leading up to the H-E-B Invitational hosted by Baylor on October 30-November 1 in Waco, Texas.
November is comprised of three tournaments for qualifying athletes starting with the ITF Hilton Head on November 2-5, the ITA Central Sectionals on November 5-8, back in Fort Worth, and the NCAA Individual Championship in Athens, Ga., from November 17-22.
The K-State roster includes seven returners with seniors Maralgoo Chogsomjav and Margaret Jaraczewski and five sophomores, Varvara Bernovich, Martaa Chogsomjav, Addison Renfro, Mallory Renfro and Diana Smolinska. Three more Wildcats made a new home in Manhattan, freshmen Sabrina Balderrama, Lena Beuing and Marta Leon Jaume.
Smith begins season nine at the helm of the K-State program, his 11th year in Manhattan. Last season the young squad went 9-14 in the spring and 3-10 in conference play with a 6-6 record playing at home.
