QUEBEC — The economic world Quebec grew and prospered in is disappearing and won’t be coming back, the leader of the Coalition Avenir Québec said Wednesday as the trade war with the United States continued to escalate.
On the campaign trail in Mont-St-Hilaire, Christine Fréchette said she is well aware the latest round of U.S. tariffs, counter-tariffs and reprisals is creating chaos for many Quebec firms.
“Everything’s moving,” Fréchette told reporters after running down a list of companies affected and subsequent job losses. “We haven’t been in that sort of context on the economic side ever before.
